My first class ever in FFTHG was the knight. And boy did I fell in love with that class. It had the right balance between offense, defense and versatility to fight in battles. Skills such as dice, defonce, and puree help to deal with multiple small enemies. Retort helps with massive enemy swarms. Divide and render takes care of the beefier and tougher enemies. Along with the good natural stat boosts, I was able to live through and enjoy my battles. As of now, I have three knights: Sandlight, Sand, and Sandlite.
The other class that I usually use with my knight is my black mage. Throughout my time playing Runelight, I found that he was a good match to go with a knight. Black mages not only have the powerful single and area spells to help kill the enemies, but they have good support spells such as barrier and boost. Spells such as drain, lock, quarter further aids in the black mages' adaptability in the battlefield.
How about you? Why do you play the class you play?

My first class in FFTHG was a dragoon, but by happenstance, I ended up recreating and choosing a fighter nonetheless. I think I choose a fighter because I had recently played Dragon Quest/warrior with the fighter class and liked how agile the class is. I did not expect fighters themselves to be that agile in ffthg but I figured they would be faster than knights.
The description of the fighter class won me over for their abilities they learn. Single damage is alright; it doesn't compare to knights but for what they can do, they do well. Warcry and painful rage for an attack boost, Chop never misses, Lunge always crits (and therefore also never misses), Get revenge at your foes with rampage, and block is essential for protecting mages. Weapons Master adds another hit, thereby increasing damage and Leadership even takes warcry further with another attack boost. Add that with chop (which also increases your attack) and you have one hell of a combination that exceeds what boost 3 can do on your fighter.
The perfect companion to a fighter is definitely a white mage. They can shield, fast and ultimately heal a fighter to keep him protecting the white mage. I also have fun playing a support role with a white mage, tossing heals when necessary and using shield and fast during tough fights.
Sand, a blackmage compliments a knight (and vice-versa) very well especially during the end game. Even without all of the death and hp halving spells and skills, this duo is a force to be reckoned with. Only downside is that the knight can't heal himself.

To be honest, I played as a Thief because I saw how stuck-up Bolt was with the "King of Thieves" talk and I felt like one-upping him.

I played a knight because I was on this defender kick at the time, and wanted to wield a sword and shield. Even though I was disappointed in the lack of shield and/or the defensive functionality or moveset that could come with it, I did enjoy the job itself.
I got into the light roleplay mindset and eventually fell in love with the class.
I made a red mage because no one really seemed to take it seriously to make it good. Like, you always heard of some high level knight, dragoon, or thief etc but never heard of a grandoise RDM much. Even though they don't excel at anything particular they did a bit of everything. Enough to make me enjoy it as a second to my Knight. It's not the strongest combo in offense or defense but it can do both better than most.

I would have to say, I started off as a Knight. I just have a fondness for them. In every game I've played, I've always started off as a knight for some reason. I just like the aspect of Melee Classes, but, for some odd reason, a Blackbelt or Fighter just doesnt cut it. Eventually, though, I warmed up to the Blackmage, and Bluemage Classes. I'd have to say Knight/BluM or Knight/BM have made pretty decent duos.

I started out as a Red Mage and soon after moved onto Black Belt as my primary class. If I were to start from scratch (again) I'd likely duo as a Black Belt and a Blue Mage.

When I first started playing FFTHG , Bluemages were a class I did not know much about , so I started my first class as Bluemage. I later paired hawkus1 the Bluemage with Medik the Whitemage, however I recreated Hawkus1 because I had screwed up my build originally and wanted to re balance his stats. And ever since then I'm still trying to strengthen him enough for the trip to pop, so Medik has been paired with one of my tote fighters since then , kind of like what vahu did with his Fighter and Whitemage combo.
I have always been the type of player , that excels in party support , so support mages have been my strongest class thus far. So much in fact that I alone in an Ambush have survived when all of the other members of my party(mostly melee classes) had fallen , and even managed to revive my entire party and defy the odds by winning the ambush due to support spells. (that ambush fight was an epic battle that lasted 45 minutes against 32 mobs in a dm battle versus stone and iron golems) I think I collected about 8000 experience points , but it was the hardest fought battle I have ever fought with a pair of level 13 mages fresh from the Cathedral.
One of my greatest wishes is that the Redmages had access to other tier 2 spells because IMHO Redmages are the best support class in the game (or would be if they had access to bar 2 , instill element 2 , healstorm 2 , and lightstorm 2) I stated in a previous post a while back , that id be very happy if Redmages lost all tier 3 spells. In exchange give them all tier 2 spells , which again IMHO would honestly balance the class. My other great wish would be to see a Graymage class , the ultimate in party support, a pure hybrid class of White and Blackmage. Id run that class duo non stop and delete all my other alts. (lol)

The first time I've ever played, I picked black belt. Way back then, I still played FF for nes a lot on the weekends, and it was one of the classes I found the most use out of in that game. Beats stuff, absorbs damage, AND a pack mule. Couldn't go wrong, you know?
Well, this isn't like that, and I learned that on iron golems. Dropped quicker than the rock thrown by a handless guy. D: I guess what I didn't know was how to use points smartly, I was new. But, even today, I'll admit, I suck with black belts. Hell, the only real build i've used with them I got from Takahashi, that math one where all the stats other than hp and mp can be broken into 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 system.
I left for a couple weeks, and when I came back after my epic faceplant streak (literally back to back 20 times over) I made a black mage named Zacorion and knight named Talon at the beginning of V5. They tore, ripped, and blown up everything they came across with pretty good ease up to what's now known as Skyre. Since then, they've just always stuck with me as my classes.

Those of you regulars who've already posted know this obviously, but I first created a Red Mage. It felt very balanced to me, being able to heal, electrocute things, or stab something with equal abandon.
Back in the early days, a LOT of the useful abilities we Redmages enjoy today were not around. Such as passive resistance to ailments, or the Instill ability.
Nowadays, with all the varying spells we Reds learn, as well as the Mage ability of Forcefield and the knowledge of having stronger armour available than any other Mage class, there have been many fights, whether they be boss or regular, where I was last man standing. I'm sure even a few of you might remember one such a time. The ability to essentially get a free casting of a spell off with every melee swing (which can play on weaknesses to boot) counteracting the fact that Redmages aren't Knights or Failgoon glass-cannons makes them still rather enjoyable to play, and they're not shabby healers either.
Personally, Hawkus, I've always felt that Reds getting that kind of power would be odd. The offensive and defensive powers of a Red combined with the full bloody spell list, nearly, of a pure Mage would be overkill. I mean, if a Red has enough time to get all of their buff spells off on themselves they're pretty damn hard to kill. Having a brick wall that can revive folks can be more useful than just another nuclear missile, even if it DOES have a sexy hat.

BM and WM for me ;D My very first character was a knight cause I was (probably still am) a FF7 fanboy and wanted a class that was similar to Cloud.. lol But then, a BM by the name of subzer0 came along and power leveled me and a bunch of other noobs.. he did it in vain for me cause I promptly deleted my knight and made my BM, Jumin. I got it all the way to tote and decided that I didn't want to rely on U. Dye's WM so I made my own and Celeste was brought to the holy light
