Oh! That's a beautiful animal, there. Reminds me of my first dog, a tricolor beagle/dachshund/something mutt. Despite the dachshund mother and beagle-mix father, he somehow wound up the size of a Labrador -- my folks weren't very happy about that. Sadly, I don't really have any decent photographs of him aside from a wallet-size that won't scan properly. Anyway, I always liked the variegated breeds. Related: cat, name of 'Anonymous', 'Nony' for short, semi-recent acquisition; estimated less than a year old; captured several months ago as a juvenile/kitten while living feral. Off-topic, but something else found on my phone camera I'd almost forgotten about; quite possibly the best company slogan ever: [edit]Ach, you might want to resize that one, actually. 'Ccording to the OP, 640x480 is the limit for hotlinked files. If you're not already using an Adobe product, I'd recommend GIMP.[/edit]

Cute cat, Caoineag. Our cats do 3 main things:
1. Eat 2. Sleep (outside the door where you almost trip over them and break your neck) 3. Whine

She's a stray, so I don't think she has any breed. That kind of coat is called a tortoiseshell; it's sort of like a subset of calico.
Most breeds can be calico/tortoiseshell, since it's basically a genetic condition where two different coat patterns try to be expressed at the same time. (it's on the X chromosome, so it only happens in females and the extremely rare XXY males, since an XY male could only express one coat pattern)
Isn't it fun how some of the stuff they taught you in school turned out to be drastically oversimplified? Mendel was great and all, but 'dominant' and 'recessive' are largely subjective and frankly misleading terms. In reality, all genes do something, it's just that they don't necessarily produce visible results (phenotypes). Nonetheless, so-called "partial dominance" or "co-dominance" is actually more common than the binary dominant/recessive model.
Um... yeah. Nobody wanted a lecture, I'm thinking, so.
As for getting a squirrel, don't know what to tell you. We had them living in our porch ceiling. One of them fell out, and we couldn't figure out how to get it back in, so we tried raising it, and it worked.
If by chance you do get one, your options are often fairly limited, since it's actually illegal to keep them in most states, and you're legally obligated to put down any native squirrel that you can't release into the wild (so you can't really take it to the vet, unless you really trust your vet).
Anyway, they are very cute in their infancy and brief adolescence. Once it was full-grown it pretty much went batshit insane, hence the loving nickname.

My cat, Missy, when she was about 6 months old.. Funny video, no kitty porn, I promise. You can't really see her in that vid, it's rather dark. So here's what she looks like now after all of her colorings have matured. She'll be a year old in April. This is her brother, his name is Token, lulz. He's the other cat in that vid.
