When I first began playing THG ambushes were a truly terrifying thing. The monsters had a pre-emptive attack and some people were lucky to survive the first wave of attacks and spells. Now I'm not saying the Brotherhood didn't do the right thing in changing Ambush's so that the monsters didn't get a free swing at you, but for some of us there was more suspence, more danger and excitement in the hunting grounds those days. -The following are a few ideas for new types of ambush. Enjoy!
Fiesta Bush: Players are ambushed with a random assortment of monsters from the general area. Ie; North Kreland, Vallatio's Cathedral, Death Mountains, The Ice Caves, Southern Skure, are all examples of specific areas. Would be a fun challenge to fight any of the monsters from an area at once for a change.
Mini Bush: Players are ambushed with only small monster types.
Large Bush: Players are ambushed with only large monster types.
Large/Mini/Fiesta Bush: Players are ambushed with only small or only large monsters from the area they are in.
Reflex Bush: Players are ambushed and the timer is automatically set and locked at "10" seconds. Players must think quick.
Null Bush: Players have their "mp" reduced to "0".
Medi Bush: Players cannot defend or meditate during the ambush.
Naked Bush: Players weapons and armor becomes unequipped.
Boss Bush:(this one is my favorite)Players are ambushed by a monster(minions and boss music optional) from a hunting ground of a higher difficulty than the area they are currenlty in.
Mr. Bush: Players are ambushed by George W. Bush.;D
Rates and other suggestions:
I thought I would finish this post by adding my own ideas for rates and also voice that if many of the ambush types were indeed ever taken into consideration or implimented that they need not be ambushes with the larger number of monsters at all. For example, it's possible that the "Null Bush", the ambush type suggested above, where the players enter the ambush with their "mp" reduced to "0", is a challenging enough encounter without adding the extra monsters associated with a normal ambush.
Suggested rates for new ambush types: (I'm not sure what the average ambush rate is per the moment) -Fiestabush: 10% of all ambushes -Minibush: 5% of all ambushes -Largebush: 5% of all ambushes -Reflexbush: 2% of all ambushes -Nullbush: 2% of all ambushes -Medibush: 2% of all ambushes -Nakedbush: 2% of all ambushes -Bossbush: 1% of all ambushes
So there you go! Thanks for reading my post, and remember, variety is the spice of life!

Thanks for reading my post, and remember, variety is the spice of life! I like it all, except for two things. 1) There are a maximum of 8 Large Enemies in a battle. I -think- I have discovered a glitch allowing more, but Hydrocrush ran from the battle before I could officially count, screensnap, etc.. I never bothered to test the theory again. 2) ....God damn it. What is it. what is t. There was another one... Well. I've completely forgotten it thanks to a few Titans. If I ever remember this second problem, I'll enlighten you. Edit: 2) On the Reflex Bush, people can get out of this 'thinking quick' by choosing Attack, then clicking Cancel, which resets the timer, and gives them a short bit of time to talk with others. 3) New problem. What if a Level 1 or 2 walks in and gets in a Fiesta Bush or Boss Bush their first battle? That would be hell. =P

Before I say how much I don't like this idea, there are no monsters in NORTHERN Kerland...
Now on to why this wouldn't be good, new players would get beat down and give up after one fight. While I do support stupid people not coming back to the game, I don't want every new player that comes along just giving up after one fight. That wouldn't be a good thing.

And, well, Whitemages can easily meditate as for the "Null Ambush"~ o.o Nothing can bring us down! E-Except for the "Medi Ambush"~ *Sniffle*
But it is true that newer players may begin to get infuriated when they see such an ambush.. o.o.. And I don't think that would do well~ So you may want to sort of give it a thought so it works out with the newer members~ But it does sound pretty neat, kya~

Ambsuhes can get really boring after a while.. Especially at titans... We need more Large monster ambushes for that easier and more exp battles ... Good going enni

I like the idea for diffrent kinds of ambushes.
For the newer players you could say these kinds cant appear at the starting area (near bridge and fallen town of Dainara).
I cant wait to fight a Null Bush with my Bm duo, they probably die though since melee isnt there best shot, the Medi Bush sounds like a challenge to me.
They might get in, atleast I hope some of them will.

Seems like an interesting idea... different kinds of ambushes would be a nice mix. Though one thing does make me wonder... if you're in titan-land and you get a boss bush, what would appear?

I love those ideas! But, all the ambush names will have to have ambush instead of bush so some newbie can hopefully take the clew that wasn't no normal battle they just died from, either that or a short sentence added after the bush name explaining the circumstances. The monsters brought in from certain areas for Fiesta bush will have to be limited to whats only found in that hunting ground, or just a few weak 1s picked from an harder hunting ground at least, cause it might end up as a ass whooping or even a PTer's happy place if its too crazy. Small/large bush sounds real fun, have large bush have a max of 16 instead of 8 if possible Naked bush sounds like some classes nightmare lol, it'll have them praying not to get critical-ed, fun fun ;D Those ambush rates will have to be with the normal ambush rate, then once the party gets an ambush, THEN the chances of those special ambushes comes to, otherwise that many types of ambushes added up will make you get too many ambushes too often Here's some more ideas (pick the name): All players receive 3% to 10% damage of what ever damage they do to an enemy (don't be stupid with this battle, I'm shure you all can tell how to do this bush without killing yourself, if you can't, you phail) (pick the name): All monsters have a 10% chance of adding a status aliment to whomever it attacks, If the monsters use magic, then a 30% chance of hit casting twice in a row From that idea above, Lady Luck Bush: both players and monsters have a 30% of attacking or casting twice in a row, 10% chance of 3x in a row, 5% chance of 4x in a row, and maybe this should only be for monsters, but 2% chance of 5x in a row. Of course if you get 2x cast or whatever off a nuke for a example, only mp is used for the 1 cast intended (pick the name): All monster's stats is doubled in this ambush, and players receive 50% more (maybe just 2x as well, you choose) EXP for this battle. warning: might be a serious PTers heaven I'm bad at picking names Edit: after reading the last battle idea, that will make some monsters hit insane damage, 2x the exp sounds like the better idea for that bush. and the second idea sounds like the most aggravating ambush ever, if it gets too out of hand

half agi black mage casting psychostorm 4 times in a row.. Bit overkill, ain't it? Or perhaps ice2/3 area. As monsters die, would the areas recirect? Players would have a huge leveling advantage, provided an area attacker goes very soon. But that I guess lands on chance of hitting those harder %'s. Then again on getting that ambush type. xD Jumin's psychostorm3 x4. Imagine the carnage.
