It's been a few years now since I first got acquainted with FFTHG, and for the most part it's been a good experience. Part of that time was spent as a member of the Brotherhood, and again for the most part it's been a good experience. However, I think that it's time.
I've decided that I'm going to retire from my duty as a member of the Brotherhood.
I always believed that when someone comes to realize that they have lost their creative drive, that they no longer feel like they can (or will) give as much attention to a project as it deserves, that they should step away from it. For me, that realization came last night. I've joked about my absent-mindedness more than once on here and in game, but nowadays it's gotten to a bad point. Not only was I forgetting to do things that I should've been doing in terms of my BH responsibilities, but at times I found myself not worrying too much about having forgotten about them... and that's unacceptable.
After thinking it over, I realized that my interest in the game and developing it isn't as strong as it needs to be. Furthermore, I don't see myself being able to rekindle that interest. Without it, I just don't feel that it's right to remain on staff when I don't have the commitment to the game that I once had.
That said, I'll fondly remember my stay as a member of the BH. I'll still show up in-game every once in a while, like usual... just entirely as a player now. I had thought about making a detailed list of 'shout outs' to various players and staff members, but I decided that it'd be inappropriate; I'd no doubt leave out at least one person that I had no intention of leaving out. Instead, I'll just limit it to some of my now former staff members:
- Kija: You were perhaps the one BH member that I was always impressed by, if only due to your calmness and seemingly constant sense of diplomacy. I regret not completing what has ended up as the final task(s) you asked me to fulfill as a BH member.
- Mahn: You were and still are a dick, and God bless you for it. You were brutally honest around me (emphasis on 'brutally'), but that you were honest is what mattered. I regret never truly thanking you for the help you gave me in terms of website-related programs and our little 'project' that we recently collaborated on.
- Stine: I've never been able to pin down exactly what it was that impresses me about you, but I just chalk that up to my foggy memory. One of these days I'll get around to pestering you, especially now that I know how close you live to me.
- Kain: You're one of the first players that I got along with in my early days, alongside other crusty people like Taterz and Dye. You've always been a little underconfident, but I'm sure that you'll remain a fine addition to the BH ranks. If nothing else, you'll be able to apply the armchair lawyer knowledge you gleaned from Phoenix Wright to good use.
- Hiro: I kind of regret not getting to know you better, since you're a nice enough guy for all intents and purposes.
- Dagolar: If you're actually still reading these boards, I'd like to thank you for giving me the chance to be a BH member in the first place, alongside Mahn, Kija and the other members of the 'new old' generation.
Not much else to say, really. I guess I'll be getting used to the brown gi of the Followers once more.
