First off, I'd like to defend the "I don't care" poll option. I see it less as meaning 'I haven't formed an opinion' and more as 'graphics don't matter to me, provided they're descriptive enough I can figure out what's going on'. Guess what I voted. Anyway.
As for an influx of players, I suspect that's not going to happen. Using the FF name and images is effectively borrowing their branding, and probably draws in people that otherwise would ignore the game (at least, more than it repels anyone). It's a popular series, and that's the point of branding, after all... surely we've all been disappointed by games we bought based largely on their belonging to a favorite series.
'Course, a large influx of players isn't necessarily good for the game per se. Either way, this is another of those "I don't really care" issues for me.
So. Towards originality! A commendable destination. Graphics can be remade, and the spells are generic enough in effect that renaming them should suffice...
What I wonder, though, is what will become of dragoons?
Historically, they're somewhere between cavalry and infantry. In popular fantasy and gaming, they're usually either dragon-slayers or dragon-tamers. Pretty much the only scenario in which they're guys-that-jump-really-high-and-use-spears is Final Fantasy, and translating their combat mechanics into something sufficiently generic seems a bit tough, to me (unlike red magi, who could conceivably become bards or temple knights or some such, and blue magi, who are already sufficiently distinct from the FF Blue Mage concept that they can't really be considered connected).
Thoughts?

No classes, spells, or skills are being renamed. All of them are common in any role playing game. Even if a Dragoon only jumped in Final Fantasy, I do not see legal issue of another game having something similiar.

Eh... that's arguable. At the very least, the spells demi, quarter, osmose, lock, rub, pearl, and white are rarely, if ever, seen outside of FF (at least by those names, which is the point). For classes, the same is true of RM and BluM. Anyway. The only real purpose is to avoid litigation? That's kind of disappointing.

I like those names, and I am sure there are even other games with similiar spells. Even if a game is the only one to use such a spell, that does not mean another game should change theirs just to be different. Changing to be better and changing just to be different are not the same to me, and I do not like doing the second.
What purpose other than legal issues would matter here? Why change "demi" to "semi blast", just an example, when demi already sounds very good? Final Fantasy certainly did not invent the word "demi", and in the situation it is used, it works very well for the spell name. This goes for the other spell names as well.

White=FF's holy, Nuke=FF's flare, and Reb=FF's Death.Pearl is origanal, I haven't seen any FF spell that weakens attack or the defense opponent. Osmose is common to blackmages in FF games. I really couldn't care either anyway, do to the fact I never care what goes on around me anyway.

I voted I dont care, but I have grown used to the things as the game, we have already lost a ton of our oldbies with this advertising of v8 that is never to come out, I don't know if it will have a positive, negative, or neutral effect on others, but I like things the way they are now, then again, for legal purposes it would be safer(in that sense better) for us to change

People will sometimes leave after a while, but I do not see any connection with showing some of version eight. I have not seen any one say, "I saw some of version eight, so I am leaving now."
Even if version eight was not shown, they would have still left. If anything, showing version eight has shown proof that it is being worked on, and more the reason to stay.

Tell that to Ehergiz, Rygashi, Milenko, Mer, Hocus, Ran, Antoine, Rand and the list goes on and on and when I ask them they all say: "I got tired of waiting for v8," or "I will come back when v8 comes out." Hence, f v8 wasn't advertised and given so much hype, we may have more than 30 players on a Friday night...and move back into the top 10 again...

Whether version eight was advertised or not, the main game did not change. They would have left anyways for that reason. The fact that some said they will come back when version eight is out shows that knowing of version eight gives reason to even come back. If version eight was not being worked on and never known, people would leave because the game was not going to be updated and so nothing left to do.
Knowing of an update that will make the game better does not cause people to leave. But if you insist on such a notion, add the key neroq to your messenger.

Hey, atleast this isn't going to be a v4 -> v5 wait, right? that took..what? 2-4 years? V8 will take much less, and besides, peopel who leave cause they got bored waiting? either 1) make new characters or 2) train like U. Dye if you can't wait for a new version then why bother playing, eventualy versions will cease to emerge as the game finishes entirely...

actually all those names came from the early FFs. if you look closely, they changed around the 4-6 phase. 7 and up i've never seen white/pearl/nuke at all.
oh and about people leaving...i suppose i left, but thats only cause FFXI sucked me back in, but i'm back even when v8 isnt out

Oh, they had Nuke, alright. They had Flare in FF7. They also had Holy in FF9, which accounts for White.

Well white/holy started out as Fade in FF1 and then moved on from there. In FF3/6 they had Pearl which you could learn from the Alexander Magicite or leveling Celes until she learned it naturally, and peal was the equivalent of holy in that game. Nuke in FF1 then on to Flare in other games. Off the top of my head 2,4,5,6,7,8, can't remember if Vivi got it 9 and didn't really bother in 10.
Anyways I wouldn't mind the monster icons getting an overhaul. On the otherhand I like the current player choice of icons nor do I have a problem with it being a fan game, and like Caoineag we have a few FF specific elements in the game. Anyways I guess I'll be more inclined to vote ye or nay once we see what the player redesigns will look like. If I havn't already missed them that is.

We already have people working on the music, so we do not need volunteers. Well, I'm sure some people here are musicians and would want to help (for those who didn't see it, that was a big ol' *hint hint wink wink*), but I don't have a clue what you're doin' with it and I don't have much of a right to since I'm not in the BH. It's you guys' choice to change it, and thanks for letting us, the players, in on the icon/music revamp. Eh, I need to take my nose out of this. Kija said it, and that's final.
