I figure I would bring this to the public's attention and this will be the only and last time I do it. Quite a few of us in the Brotherhood kind of feel that alot of us here, don't get appreciated for things we do regarding the game. Don't get me wrong, we do occasionally but majority of the time, it seems noone cares. We put time, effort, work into the game and it seems to come out for naught at times.
I'd like to start off with people lying and thinking we are "bad guys". Many people post lies and false accusations about being banned, harassed, insulted, and other things inside the game on other forums. Of course no matter what we do, people will still think of us as bad guys and hopefully, that will change in V8's release coming soon.
Second is concerning holiday specials. I mean, we really enjoy doing special stuff for the holidays for those who play. We work hard to bring ya'll fun and enjoyment with icons, special greetings, and fun things to do. A few of us sent in-game cards to people and only got gibberish, typos, and other "crap" that wasn't needed. No thanks for a card, no thanks period, no Happy Valentine's Day, nothing. Someone even complained that a poem didn't rhyme even when it wasn't suppose to rhyme on that line. If noone appreciates the holiday specials, we can easily stop doing them and start working on something else. Sorry for trying to make the game more enjoyable.
Last but not least, kind of has to do with server/forums/website/vent in one category. Alot of people don't care that hosting the server comes out of my money. It is on it's own computer, over 512mbs of RAM, backup HDs, cable internet connection, and Kija access to it 24/7. No thanks for it. Forums, the forums are fine. Not alot of complaints there besides how the layout and colors are. I think they are fine the way they are. Simplicity is often the best. Concerning the website, I have gotten a few complaints that the skills/spells/exp/newbie guide and other stuff, is "wrong". A few others is why we don't put their information up on the site regarding classes and a few other things. The main point of this is, we really don't need that right now. Descriptions and everything is up to date. Vent server, Rand is paying for people to use it and I hardly see anyone talking or doing anything on it. Trust me, I do login quite a few times a day. Increased capacity also. Up to 25, I believe. Come on people, use it.
That is basically all I have to bring to ya'll's attention besides we are planning something "very special, very soon". All I am going to say on that. I'm gonna hit the hay before I spit more "gibberish" out of my mouth.

In regards to the website, I almost always hear about problems players have with a certain section by way of secondhand knowledge. The 'contact me at *e-mail address*' on more than a few of the pages isn't going to infect your computer with a Trojan if you click on it, so USE it if you see something that is out of date, mistyped, or warrants mention. I don't throw out e-mails sent to me; if anything I carefully look through my e-mails in order to catch genuine e-mails (as opposed to whatever is currently being squirted out by spam-bots). It's absurd that there are only four people who regularly notify me of things on the site that need to be fixed/updated, especially when three of them are members of the Brotherhood.

I'll give the people this much, I did see some Wsay action taking place of appreciation over the Valentine's Day event, such as the music and a bit of amusement over the icon changes. That, and I think Soren is in love with me. Just a hunch, though. (You know it's true ) The Ventrilo server, I know, I need to fix a few tiny things on it once I shower. But seriously. Before it was changed, it was always full with more people wanting on, and now that I've gotten us a server with 25 slots opposed to 8, it's dead as a badly-hacked Dragonball Z game. It wasn't exactly cheap for me to bring this upgrade of slots around, so please use it, folks. You can find a link to it in the Announcements//Updates thread. And, no one here is a "bad guy." If someone were banned or booted or imprisoned, 99% of the time it's due to Not Following The Rules. And, if it isn't listed in the rules but you think it MAY be bad anyway...you should probably just not do it. I've bveen nice so far in some of the things I've seen, but I may have to change that. Don't make me have to.

Well, now I feel a little bad. I didn't really do much with the Valentine's day stuff; only one card I sent had any original content. The rest were just snippets of random things I thought were interesting or amusing.
In retrospect, some of them might have been a bit esoteric, and thus not funny.
As for the 'bad guys' thing, you'll get that pretty much anywhere you go... Anywhere a programmer/contributer is visible in a GM-like role, people like to joke as though they're power-hungry and/or irritable bastards (though often entirely innocuous, it still gets tiresome). I don't see a reliable solution forthcoming... like construction workers yelling catcalls or clerks that keep calling you by your first name (to demonstrate that they can read a credit card, I guess*), it's just something you live with.
I do know that creating games is difficult, lengthy, and often unpaid work, and so a bit of gratitude is not an unreasonable expectation. Ironically, and unfortunately, people tend to assume that anyone providing a service, even a free service, is working for them, and treat them accordingly [poorly].
What else... eh, I'm just now returning from a significant hiatus, so I'm not familiar enough with this Vent server to say anything intelligent.
Hrm. I'm not terribly good at encouraging people, so.
I can say that I don't think the work is unappreciated, but that pleased people don't really feel the need to voice their appreciation, while displeased people are generally hell-bent on making someone hear what they have to say.
Oy.
* Yeah, I realise some companies have that as policy, and that most U.S. folks aren't offended by it, but us backwards old-fashioned-type people are taken aback at strangers using our personal names.

All I can say is the icons and the cards made me laugh pretty damn hard. The v-day card from Kaug made me fall out of my seat from laughing. I'm laughing as in "holy shit this is funny" not "holy shit this sucky funny". Keep it up and I'll end up in a coma from laughter XD

it was a nice surprise when i saw the valentine's theme, but i don't know how the card thing worked >.>
and though i don't really say, i do appreciate the hard work that you guys put into this game! It's always nice whenever i see the message of the day flash across, and i'm always grateful for the 'round clock server monitoring
especially the 'round the clock server monitor.. without that.. this game's community would probably go down the drain >.>
keep up the good work BH! love you guys!

Most of the people who do/will/would appreciate all the BH has done for this game are either waiting for v8 to come out, or have no contact with BYOND anymore.
For the record, I appreciate all that junk and stuff. I know, I'm so sincere.

My turn to donate 2 cents to the jar...
I really think that, as far as appreciation for the game goes, some folks are looking at it the wrong way. I wouldn't say that the absence of evidence (of appreciation) is the evidence of absence. I really think it's more of an unspoken appreciation on the part of those who enjoy the game and hang around it. Like somebody said before, it's really just the complainers that we hear, because they're talking much more loudly than the rest.
As for the complaints about the BH being a bunch of power-hungry assholes who withhold power from others because they're a bunch of elitist pricks who fuck other guys (I'm so going to hell for that (I just made that up to make a point; I haven't actually heard anyone say this, nor am I saying it))... That, I'm afraid, comes with the territory. No matter where you go, you're gonna see a lot of people who think they can run things a whole lot better than the current... regime, for lack of a better word. Of course, when they don't get put in charge 2 seconds after first discovering a game, they're gonna talk shit about the current admins, everyone in the game, everyone out of the game, and then leave. When people do that shit, just stop and think before you hit that ban button, "We don't want this bastard around here anyway." Then, when you DO press the little red button, you're gonna feel a WHOLE lot better about doing it. You gotta just cull the bad ones out of the herd and don't let them get to you. This is a big game; more people like that will show up to a big game than a smaller one.

Omggg theserverisdown..Just kidding, honestly.
Well. I'm one of those people like Kyou mentioned, but Im trying to get more play time in, to get some more characters to PoP for v8 when its finally out. I have to admit, I feel like there is an atmosphere about the oldbies that 'man v8 is taking forever, are they really trying their hardest?'
Regardless, I for one, trust and know the BH is always mature and professional in taking care of business when it needs to get taken care of. Dagolar was like that from day one, and his influence throughout the existing BH today is quite possibly the best game staff Byond has ever seen. I'm not kidding. I've played tons of DBZ games, a few naruto games, etc..any game that's ever been popular, I've played it just for the hell of it. I've been GM in a few, as well.
Even lesser known games with excellent GM staffs, it often turns up that the developer team and the GM team are completely different, and the games leave something to be desired.
FF:THG Is a monument to excellent game moderation, execution and cater to the player's needs. All possible through the Brother Hood.
If there were 3 things to regret the most since 4-5 years ago when I first started Byond, leaving the great team that is the Brotherhood for a dumb reason was the biggest one.. Sparing you all from a heafty history of the BH, I'd just like to say Mahn and Kija, hats off for being there for everyone every step of the way.
I can remember back when Kija had the highest level on my server training in the graveyard...good 'ol v4.. =)

Version 4! <--- It is a link btw. In all honesty Fen, I never knew exactly why you left long ago. You can enlighten me in a PM if you want, unless you want to give a little Brotherhood history to the others. History of the Brotherhood and FF:THG is surely liked here. It shows just how long and what hardships everyone who worked on the game has been through. Not to mention, it's four-fathers and the stepping stone to create this game. Fen can give ALOT of history if he wants to...

It'd make me happy to hear some of it too, actually. And..uh..if you don't, I'll sick Ryan on you. I'll feed him reese cups until he goes rabid. Yeah. That's what I'll do.
But honestly, thank you for the posts we've seen in here. It lightens the heart to know what we do is appreciated. Of course a lot of people feel it anyway, but giving it voice once in awhile..it can buoy you towards a good mood if you're feeling down, or make your day golden if it was already pretty good.
Thanks, all of you, from me.

I'd be glad to share the honors! =)
Well, It started oooh...as you all know, back in v4. Kaug was the last boss, and the Ranook Graveyard was the final dungeon. The highest level was on average, 20. The highest people on the game were 25+.
The first host to my memory was Terra(Shoobs). The game was originally created by the cooperation of Loud, Thorg, Xenthier(dungeon maps etc), Poggy(Pogrus), and Dagolar.
I was introduced to the game by a good friend KileTerro, who has some of his own byond works. I joined lets see...right as Terra left as host, and Dagolar had been forced to find another host..who unthinkable would not host very often at all, and in the end I had taken up the position, with no save files transferred from the last host. At this point in time Pogrus and Shoobs still came around and said Hi now and then. We still had that dreaded clone bug for boss fights. >=o.
Anyways, ya know, I really forget why I stopped hosting. I do remember Dag asking to shut the game down a few times because of the clone bug. Moving on. When we were ready to put the game back up, I believe I had gone on a hiatus for a few weeks, and I think this is when Dagolar first opened v4 to be hosted by the public. Megan/Matt character had the most stable server and it was up fairly often, with bearable lag. This person eventually became honorary BH member in recognition of the hosting dedication shown. I think that Mahn guy was a host back in v4 as well =P (<.< >.> could have been my imagination)
I dropped out of the FF:THG scene as there was apparently no work in progress for v5. Dagolar and pogrus were really the only two on the team, with Mettool in the mix. Life continued on for the brave players in v4.
Eventually, dagolar came to me and a few others while I was visiting the game one day. He said he was making skure2 test phase, and wanted to know if anyone with a serious Role Play mind wanted to join for closed play sessions. This was AWESOME. It was like D&D on line, in every way possible. Everyone picked their own Icons, characters, Character backgrounds...it was great. Dagolar was DM himself and we had fun battles. This Skure2 game was suppose to be the second game in the series. The original v4 was never meant to be updated at all, in truth. Dagolar said the code was so messed up, it wasn't worth fixing; that it'd all have to be re-done....**(see below for an amazing feat of dedication)**
Moving on. After a solid month and a half of our Skure2 adventures, things started picking up with real life. For all of us really, Dagolar the most. He said he would no longer continue the skure2 adventures. We protested so much, that after some convincing, we, the players of skure2 decided to take on the project ourselves. Dagolar was kind enough to assist us in coordinating our efforts. Those key players included none other than: Mettool, Mahn, Kija, Zero000(matt i think?or megan..someone correct me on this) Ayerik, Ilikepie(possibly) and, myself. Others might have been involved in this at one point. We were split into teams to tackle the game from top to bottom. (v4 coding)
Before things even got off the ground, I had to 'bow out' because At the time I was working 40 hours at my very first job, and 20 hours of school every week. I was exhausted, and at that time, I was the only one on the team who could look at BYOND code and tell you what it was going to do in-game. Kija was suppose to work -under- me on re-coding the game. Now he's left alone.
***Amazing feat of dedication***Fast forward to when I arrive back into the FF:THG scene...the current version we have now had JUST come out. Only 1 or 2 people were in Mona and fighting their way to PoP. Here's the kicker. You know that v4 code? The entire game was over 3,200 lines of code. It was not separated, it was not organized, and some of it was very redundant causing unnecessary lag, and the clone bug at that. Kija not only learned the BYOND language from scratch, but apparently mastered it, as our game now at v7 is a complete new game in terms of coding, from v4. The only thing that remained the same were the Icons, and even those have been changed color-wise, for the various nation allegiances.
I have no idea of the inner workings of the current BH. But let me tell you people that this team is wonderful and they have definitely worked hard from day one. Mahn was there to help Kija out every step of the way, as was Mettool and Pogrus even came back a few times, If I heard correctly.
Just a quick last bit about our founder, Dagolar. This man created the storyline of FF:THG out of his own imagination. This entire world is the result of his great mind. He wrote up so, so, so many details about how the world of skure really is. The storyline is excellent, a true masterpiece.
With the permission of Mahn or Kija, I'd like to release the URL of the old Skure2 website because It was the last true work of Dagolar we, the Brotherhood still have. It also contains a ton of information about the world of Skure straight from dagolar's mind, including a very comprehensive time line, leading up to where the storyline starts for us adventurers.

That, and I think Soren is in love with me. Just a hunch, though. (You know it's true ) I ask you for money and this becomes your theory? =( Anyhow, I love the fact that you guys work so hard to make the game so special. Valentines Day was especially fun, though I can say I didn't send any card that said "Happy Valentines Day." Figured I'd be made fun of more than anything, but I did blow bunches of gold on potions and bring myself through each area passing out those potions to people as sort of a celebration. =) I don't really know what to say about anything else, besides sorry for not using the Ventrilo server. =(
