Hmm. There's not really a general thread for mild complaints...so.
Its been bothering me for awhile, but I guess when I was looking into the usage of daggers, it motivated me enough to complain/whine >.>.
Rdm's, according to the website, can only use 3 daggers. Thats cool. ok. So I had a friend check out the daggers, the only one that isn't near completely useless is the poignard, and It cannot be used by rdms.
Why is this a problem , you say? Cause Blackmages can use it. Okay, wtf. >.>
In fact, black mages can use more daggers than Redmages. Um...Thats way off balance, IMO. Blackmages NEVER melee, unless its because the enemy is so weak its easier to save Mp and melee attack. They just need it for less weight, for agility i guess. Is Red mage not the halfbreed? Why is it that a full mage who isn't build to melee at all, can use a weapon that a job who is meant to be the jack of all trades not able to use more than a black mage?
I seriously think that when the newer class upgrades and changes were made, rdm and ranger weren't thought out completely, weren't tested enough for balance.
Perhaps, it was that Red mage wasn't given certain spells in order to keep it at a nice balance. Of course, it wasn't meant at all to be better than any one job at its own game. Understandable. Instead of limiting it in that aspect, and balancing it as to be decently versatile, it came out sub-par and it does not bring any specialties to the table.
I understand it is completely a support role and it is not meant to stand out, but its just plain weak. It has no strong suits, and If you try to go for a certain build, you still lack what other jobs can specialize in.
What I'm saying is that Red mages, Rangers, and the rest of the classes need to be carefully looked at and assessed to see how each one of them is unique, and to make sure Red mages and Rangers are treated with equal respect as their own classes and be given more thought.
SUMMARY: BLM can use more daggers than Redmages? Um. Red mage = more melee than blm. So no. Red mages and Rangers are jacks of all trades, but there in lies their problem, and need to be tweaked so that they have their own identities and abilities that other jobs do not have, as well. </ongoing battle for rdm equality>
