i understand the point of the enlightenment as well as the fact that one cannot party with those whom are unenlightened (i was all for that) but what i do not agree with is the loss of the 50mil, we have to grind it all back now. also, we're being enlightened, hell, we got 20k in the GY for no damn reason, we read a tombstone. yea, it progessed the storyline, it's the reason i went there the first time, but we read a damn tombstone, and depending on our levels, we gane 2-3 levels. the mark gives 100 exp, chances are that will level you, if you're somehow a lvl one then it'll level you twice, close to 3, there are experience bonus' throughout the game, why take this one out?

Actually, the exp rates on tnls have changed enough that, last time I checked, the first mark will not level you twice anymore at level 1, not unless you've gained all but 1-5 exp or something of the sort. As well, GY has become pointless, just about. It was a good place to practice up, preparing for the stronger monsters in SS, but now, a lot of people actually skip GY. I have met a small handful of level 26's through 32's that didn't even really know what was in GY, and/or didn't even know it was there. As for the Tote exp, it was not said it was removed and will never be put back in. If and when, and please don't heavily point out the 'if' as to totally disregard the when part (everyone, I mean. Not just Hiro ), it gets put back in, it will be giving to everyone enlightened. As far as it has really been going, looking at all three of those things make it look a LOT like an anti-rush movement. You still have to fight for the levels in Dainaria, you still have the exp in GY to make people go there instead of single-out the highest leveled people that can do SS to power train such as Wisdom, or U Dye, or myself, and the lack of auto-levels in Tote makes people actually train, and prepare themselves, instead of running half-cocked into tote on a whim and prayer just to make it, and suddenly be badasses. At least, this is how it kind of really sounds and looks like from my end. I may be wrong on one or two things, but at the bigger picture, I don't see too much of a terrible problem.

EXACTLY, damn straight, Reap. This way you can't hit the 5 key a few times and gain every level for that area you need to go fight the next boss and move on. Aww, you have to fight for your EXP? Tough shit. You did it everywhere else, you can do it here, INVESTIGATOR.
As for the lack of visitation to Ranook Graveyard...never fear, that will be fixed soon enough. THat, too, will be solved via the anti-rush movement.
If I ever decide to bring up the topic of Nexus granting storyline EXP, it will not be 50 million. Chances are it won't even be ONE million. It'll probably be around 500,000....enough to gain you a level or close to it, just as Dainaria and Ranook give. End of story.

i would not mind a drop in the amount of exp gained, but Rand, more than 500k will be needed for a single level. Also, i DO fight for the levels i had, with Hiro and Nighty especially, even after the 50 million exp bonus, please do not imply that i don't, and the only reason i take that remotely personal is because 1) there's only 3 of us still discussing 2) everyone seems to think i never train Hiro anymore, which isn't true.

Personally, I don't think many people know about Ranook Graveyard due to the lack of knowledge that it exist in the first place. The only reason I went to Ranook Graveyard is because it's the last area in V4 you could train at, so when I returned I went there habitually.
Still, I'd support this Anti-Rush idea. This way people would go to the monestarys as I have and actually fullfil thier duty as an investigator instead of doing the basic concepts of an RPG (I. E. Kill Monsters, Level Up, and Slay Bosses.)
I like the idea of US being the people hunted, risking life and limb to attempt to gain enlightement over what's actually happening the the world of Darlow. If you're not willing to commit the patience needed in almost all investigations, then why bother playing a game where that's your main goal?
I've never been gotten Enlightened, or be Geyzer, but from what I understand at this point it's not about the Levels, it's about the story that this game was contructed.
Believe me, if I could get enlightened and get to PoP faster just to talk to the people in TOTE, that'd make my day entirely. Just to understand more about what the Hunting Grounds are about.
In the words of a friend of mine "Quit your bitchin'"

I'll cut to the core, Ry. The reason I've been like I have is because, to me, personally, it's sounded more like a complaint of not being able to elvel 10 times in a second rather than the general idea of EXP loss. I'm sorry if something else ahs come to conclusion of these chains, but..if I hear someone just whining because they cant level without working for it, that just pisses me off, you know? But if you're just peeved there's no storyline EXP whatsoever, THAT can be worked with, in time.

I loved it when Ranook was known by everyone. Wasn't there like, what, 1 in every 4 people didn't know about it back then? Still like being in the second party to get there....Anyone else miss Crazy Cloud?

grinding is fun and all, but that gets boring and old rather quickly. the old exp boost really just let the players see what's to come in v8. it sucks i lost a level, but i'm not about to go out an relevel.
it just gets boring to spend 10 hours to gain a level, and then see the exp requirement jump and suddenly 10 hours multiplies into 40 hours for half a level. this is the one thing that really deters me from leveling on THG anymore, i got bored of the grind. getting 600k an hour in graveyard was fun as hell, but seeing a similar speed relative to the difficulty of monsters is nigh impossible.
i think that's why most people abused the 50 million boost. they are obviously people who don't enjoy grinding, and just wanted to see endgame content. that, or it's someone leveling their 80th job into the pit just for the hell of it. out of the some 200+ people that has played THG, around 5 actually enjoy grinding and continue to do so. everyone else, they just wanna see the end...

Which the new areas will fix the problems of EXP considerably when it is out. You know how these things change when you enter a new territory.

I've only joined the game recently, as I did not know about enlightenment until I reached the ice caverns and trained with Reap , I believe. I understand that 50 mil exp gain does affect those who are already in Pop, Tote whatever it is. I'm in the ice caverns right now, so I've never been there and I don't plan to until I reach level 50 so I can at least survive in there... Thing is, I must be one of those 5 people who enjoys grinding to some extent because I set a goal for myself to reach a certain level before I fight a boss. The fact is, even though you do gain exp in the boss battles (most of them, I believe) when you're dead, I'd rather not die anyway, regardless of the gold loss penalty. Most people I end up partying with want to get the area over with and train in the next one because they level faster (at least it seems that way to me.) I guess thats why I enjoy training with Reap because we kinda go at the same pace. I understand that everyone has their own pace, but its still frustrating to me to go fight a boss that you don't feel you are ready for. Thus, why I intend to train myself to high level (such as level 48) before I move on to the next area so that I might survive there. When you think about it, you grind a bit in every area so that shouldn't change much once you become enlightened. I think Rand's idea of possible lower exp when you become enlightened because it should just be enough to help you get started in the next area.

Like I said, unless general EXP is changed considerably in the future, I don't see much beyond the scope of 500,000 EXP gained as a bonus. A bonus EXP grant isn't meant to be a boost-me-up-so-I-don't-have-to-train kind of deal. I'd have made the EXP gain fro Dainaria 50-75 instead of 100 back in the days of different EXP tables if I had my way.

The rather unfortunate thing is even jumin with a black and bluemage at level 61 still dies equably too much in pop, so the 50 million really evened out the playing field, also with this method no one would keep you from a party because you were too underdeveloped for an area.

Rub and crits are really the only real big threats in PoP. Even heavy melee classes can't just turn a blind eye to those damn crits; they get BIG. You ever seen what happens when you mix a Whitemage, a Lower Demon, and Boost1? It's a real mess. If that thing gets that attack off, it's almost guaran-god-damn-teed to turn the Mage into puree.
NOBODY can ignore Rub, and I mean nobody. Anyone who says otherwise can shove that RIGHT up their ass. 5% chance to cast, and 45% chance of success... Doesn't seem like much, but trust me, IT IS. Especially when there's a dozen of the little fuckers on the screen.

The rub of death I can understand, along with those cheap criticals every now and then... But, I suppose if you are quick enough, you can kill them before they kill you, unless they outnumber you

Post by Takahashi on Sept 5, 2007 16:11:25 GMT -6
That's usually a mighty big if, since most small monsters in PoP have between 100 to 200 evasion, with a few that have Air Elemental syndrome (i.e., "My evasion speed rank is Just Under the Speed of Light"). So sometimes, it doesn't matter how much agility you pumped into your character or if you have Fast 3 status, you're still getting hit before you can do anything about it.
Evil Spirits are somewhere in the middle, so for all but the most agility-loving of characters, they get their chance to Rub you before you get your chance to kill them.

I can personally guarantee the problem solved, myself. All you have to do is follow two easy steps:
Step 1: Kill everything you see.
Step 2: Repeat step 1 liberally.

I'd much rather do that with a party though Dye, not alone forever and ever, the least they could do was allow me to return to Mona via book and still block access to Magora.

Version 8 will have the experience fixed for the high levels, so you can actually take lesser time to level up. Anyways, I can't wait to see what will come out.
