perhaps change the way spells can be area'd? its kinda dumb to see just ice as the most useful spell that can be spread while neglecting the other 2 spells entirely.
perhaps change it in a way to allow the user to choose how they want to area the spell?

Well, I personally believe the area of the ice spell and the other attack abilities, not including status spells, should be reverted back to the original size.
It currently seems way too big and makes the other area spells and abilities seem pointless to use in the majority of situations where you have a choice between them.
If the spells were to have all three area choices though, I still think the size should be reduced.

I think that a system-wide adjustment on areas would be appropriate. Basically, the more targets a spell hits, the greater the power reduction. Using a few examples:
- Fire and Lit have their damage improved (80% damage per target). Potential damage ranges anywhere from 80% to 640% of the single target version. - Ice retains its 5x5 area, but the damage is redone. The inner 3x3 section does 40% per target damage, but the other 16 possible spots only do 20% damage. Potential damage ranges anywhere from 20% to 680%. - Lightstorm retains its 5x5 area, but the damage is reduced by 20%, meaning that Tier 1 LS is 80% will, Tier 2 is 120% and Tier 3 is 160%. In light of Ice's damage being reduced as much as it was, LS in its current state becomes a bit TOO good, barring areas where everything is immune to light damage. This reduction combined with LS having a higher MP cost compared to Fire, Lit and Ice should keep it in line. - Tier 2 and 3 status ailment spells are changed; the Tier 2 spells would have a 3x3 area while also having the option to be cast as a single-target spell (the effect would be between the Tier 1 and Tier 3 versions), while the Tier 3 spells can either be cast as a single target (giving the same results as they do now) or as an area effect (acting as the Tier 2 spell with a 5x5 area). - Darkfire and Psychostorm remain as they are now.
