There could be a like "Anti-Lag" button. If there is a crash or what not, there could be a button in the Commands area. If 2/3s of the world is to click it within 5 minutes of each other the game reboots. Thus not needing to get a BH member on everytime we have a problem. This is just a suggestion i cooked up.

Yeah, but the problem with that is, is that people would click the button for fun, or maybe by accident. You'd have 2/3's of people just clicking the button out of boredom, then the next thing you know, there'd be a reboot when there's absolutely nothing wrong with the server. And, yeah. Rebooting doesn't help the lag. I've actually heard that sometimes rebooting can cause the lag to get worse.

It's not a bad idea...but I don't see it happening.

In no way, shape, or form will the community ever be able to reboot the server. If it crashes and no one is around go outside and play for Christ's sake.

World mute! people wont argue when the lag is just that bad,, world mute helps allot, Ive sat there and watched my resource loading speed increase when ppl shut up i wont ;D main reason is ppl (including me) cant log in half the time 4-8 in the afternoon central time, my only hope to log in at that time is if i don't have to download resources (takes like an hour at that time lol) which also reminds me, there needs to be some sort of external link to download the resources so you don't get stuck at the main menu, i don't know if that'll fix the problem tho also an auto mute system , yess, sounds gooood that will make all the blabber-mouth's heads explode

Con... you should go outside and play some.. jesus. We spend time doing things other then just the game. And if a BH member is not on what are we suppose to do? Wait for Kija is all we can do. You don't respond on MSN to help with things Rand is normally away so when we need him he is not normally on but he can help as well. But For other reasons it could help b/c if it crashes it could be able to reboot and refresh.. not run then screw us all over with it.

I'm around a little more often than you may think. But I'm at work until roughly 6:00 PM central time through the week, and until 2:30 roughly on Saturday during winter hours.

I'd love to sit on BYOND all day just to reboot the server, but 10-12 hour work days come first.

There are several Brotherhood members about, throughout the day. It isn't as simple as "reboot" button because I could reboot the server and the problem can still exist. We have a special monitor server, that Brotherhood members login to; to fully bring the server down and bring it back up. That is the only way to fix the current "freezing". As for Brotherhood members only, it is part of our protection for the server/game coding.

What is the cause of lag, anyway, and how does rebooting help the server?

When the server has ran long enough, eventually it needs to be reset simply because of all the constant data flow and what have you.

The freezing, usually just called a crash occurs from the over use of the input proc, which eventually causes the input proc to stop receiving the inputs of the players. Because of this, any area that has the input proc freezes waiting for an input already inputted. This causes many things to freeze, usually noticed in battles. The only way to fix the freeze is to reboot the server.
Lag cannot be fixed by a reboot. Lag is caused by either your or the host's connection. It has nothing to do with the actual server. So, if for some reason it suddenly takes you three seconds for something to happen, screaming out "reboot!" solves nothing. The reason we never do reboot requests because of lag is for this very reason. It does nothing.
