Some new suggestions for the ranger class

This is an idea Xgod and myself came up with when a ranger showed up randomly in our party one day. We would like to see new animal forms for the ranger , and with keeping with the "wilderness tactics" theme of a ranger , these suggestions didn't seem half bad.

1. " Call of the Spider " - The user is transformed into a were spider, which increases attack speed, evasion speed, damage and HP by 25%. Attacks have a 20% chance of inflicting a poison 1 status effect. It cannot be dispelled and lasts until the user chooses to transform back into a human state. The user cannot cast magic while transformed, nor can they change to a different were-form. Transforming to or from were spider status costs MP equal to 10% of their max MP.

We were not sure how this would work with hunt , we also thought call of the fox could be bumped back a couple levels to level 7 ,and this one could be added at level 3 or 4 . The wolf spider sprite is the obvious choice for the transformed ranger.

2. " Call of the Tyro " - The user is transformed into a tyrannosaurus, which increases attack speed, evasion speed, damage and HP by 250%. Attacks have a 25% chance of inflicting a gore status . It cannot be dispelled and lasts until the user chooses to transform back into a human state. The user cannot cast magic while transformed, nor can they change to a different were-form or back into a Tyrannosaurus. Transforming to or from a Tyrannosaurus status costs MP equal to 50% of their max MP.

This one is the big boy , level 50 minimum for this , hunt is this forms greatest strength! Not sure how the sprites would work either.

3. " Call of the Raptor " - The user is transformed into a (veloci)Raptor, which increases which increases attack speed by 75%, damage by 60%, HP by 60% . Attacks have a 25% chance of inflicting a gore status. It cannot be dispelled and lasts until the user chooses to transform back into a human state. The user cannot cast magic while transformed, nor can they change to a different were-form or a (veloci)Raptor. Transforming to or from (veloci)Raptor status costs MP equal to 15% of their max MP.

Works great with hunt like the Tyro , is the middle of the road between fox form and cougar form, i think maybe level 17 is appropriate , and urgently needed since fox and cougar are 19 levels apart. or it could be added at level 34 as the middle of the road between cougar and grizzly , merely change the stats to "
which increases attack speed by 75%, damage by 75%, HP by 75% " "Transforming to or from (veloci)Raptor status costs MP equal to 20% of their max MP. Sprites are a color changed Dino(obviously)

Some oddball suggestions:

4. " Call of the Panther "(or lion , tiger). another middle of the road transformation like call of the raptor with similar stat increases , I'm kinda stuck on where to go with this one .since raptor covers both bases. sprites are a recolor of the saber toothed tiger. People I spoke too seemed to like the raptor idea , more than the tiger unfortunately , but it runs better with the wilderness theme.

5. " Call of the Horse " (unicorn) no idea on sprites though.

Your thoughts? and why or how will it not work?

I'll say this again- Call of the Tyro is FAR overpowered. Let's assume this level 50 ranger has not spent a single stat bonus point, has no equipment, and is enlightened.

His stats will be like so-

HP: 734
MP: 159
Str: 137
Vit: 134
Dex: 187
Agi: 187
WP: 134

Now we add on the 250% bonuses from tyranno call, and we are left with

HP: 1,835
MP: 159
Str: 342.5 (may round to 343)
Vit: 134
Dex: 467.5 (might round to 468)
Agi: 467.5 (might round to 468)
WP: 134

And remember, this is assuming that someone would spend no stat points and equip no gear. I hope I don't need to tell you why this is a problem.

then why note tone it down a bit, regardless i still enjoy call of spider and raptor may be a little more acceptable then so

i was leaning on multiple suggestions when i made these suggestions , too see if any would be liked . And of coarse call of the tyro is overpowered , but so are all the grizzly bears running around tote , seeing how phoenix did the math for me , it would have to be dumbed down a little if it was put in to conception . But that is what a suggestion is for : to suggest .

I want to see more than just 3 forms of were beasts if possible , I like the idea of new skills , magics , and ability's , so as to keep the game fresh and exciting . Version 8 is gonna be new and exciting (I hope). New classes would definitely be a plus!

no one commented on the other were forms , how about some thoughts on those ideas ?!

Spider seemed interesting. I may keep that in mind. As for the rest...even Spider goes too far from the Nature-defending beasts we see. Never fear. If my idea gets approval for Rangers, you may yet get a new form. One that will make a lot of people happy. Just stay tuned.

there's a tote ranger npc that likes to transforms into snakes... i always though that hinted toward a new form for rangers in subsequent versions.

Well, the way I've always wanted

a.k.a. fat chance of ever happening

the Ranger morphs to go is like this.

There would be 3 different types.

Theory:
Attack = Small-Medium HP gain, A Damage increase, and Attack Speed increase.
Defense = Medium-Large HP gain, Defense Increase, Evasion Speed Increase.
Magic = Small HP gain, small-Medium Magic resistance. Magic Power increase (If Magic Power ever became a "Battle Stat")

Then there would be 3 tiers for each type

For example, the current ones would be the "calls" for the attack type, with some slight modifications.
Tier 1 = Wolf (25% HP increase, 50% Damage increase, 50% Attack Speed increase, +1 Hit) Notice the decrease in HP gain and total loss of Evasion boost, also, an extra hit gain which in the beginning Hits are awesome.
Tier 2 = Cougar. Fine as is. Edit: Maybe lower HP to 50% and Attack speed to 75%
Tier 3 = Grizzly (Lower the HP increase and attack speed to 100%, increase damage to 200%, add 1 hit.)

For Defense. lets use monkeys for the example.
Tier 1 = Chimp (+50% HP increase, 25% defense increase, 50% Evasion increase,)
Tier 2 = Ape (100% HP increase, 50% defense Increase, 25% Evasion increase, +1 Hit)
Tier 3 = Gorrilla (+150% HP increase, 75% Defense Increase 25% evasion Increase, +2 hits)

For Magic. Reptilians!
Tier 1 = Serpent (25% HP increase, 25% Magic Resistance, 25% Magic Power increase)
Tier 2 = ?? (25% HP increase, 50% Magic Resistance, 50% Magic Power increase)
Tier 3 = Wyvern (50% HP increase, 50% Magic Resistance, 75% Magic Power increase).

I'll make another post later today regarding Magic Power as a "Battle Stat"

Now thats more like it , I hope spider is truly considered, thanks for the review Rand. Tiered rangers goes way beyond my original idea , yet i liked it as well , go with an attack property in rangers and you have your original calls , but go with a magic based property , and " Call of the Reptiles " becomes very interesting!

Major thing I'm going for is to add to the rangers repertoire by adding a couple of forms (calls) and to spice up the ranger class .
Rangers don't get the spells they need , so add to there greatest strength , transformation. I believe it will breathe new life into the class!

Well, I already looked at the current calls as being tiered.
Fox < Cougar < Grizzly

So I kind of just took that idea and ran with it. That way. (Points)

My suggestion is not that of calls or different classes of ranger, but that of the icons. Why not have the ranger with whatever he/she called? Or does he/she transform? Somehow transformation doesn't make much sense.

You misread his post. He is saying that the ranger magically transforming doesn't make much sense (I don't see why in a world of dragons, were beasts, and magic, but anyhow). He is saying if the ranger is calling an animal friend to the field, they should be shown standing beside this animal. His entire post was a moot point, however, as the ability text implicitly states that the ranger is turning themself into a were beast.
