I think the forums rule relating to thread necromancy should be retooled. As it stands, if someone wants to contribute to a thread, they have to hope that it has been recently posted in. Otherwise, we might as well implement a system that auto-locks any thread that has been idle for more than a week. People who are making posts in line with certain old threads are getting branded for thread necromancy (Smelly and Thorn in the Ultimate Kain Effect thread, as a recent example).
Also, if such actions are considered violations, that risks having two or more threads that serve the same purpose; people may make a new thread that is about the exact same thing as an old thread, so that they don't violate rule #5 (no thread necromancy). In effect, we're advocating extra clutter in place of reviving an old thread with worthwhile content.
In terms of modifying rule #5, I propose the following:
No unnecessary thread necromancy. By this we mean don't revive old threads unless you intend to post worthwhile and relevant content. An old thread is a thread that hasn't been posted on in more than a week or so. Seriously, threads die for a reason.
More specifically, making a post in an old thread about your favorite class that amounts to 'lol i agree' is a violation of this rule. Making a post in that same thread where you say what your favorite is and give a semi-detailed (at the least) explanation as to why that class is your favorite, on the other hand, is acceptable. Making that same detailed post in an old thread about your favorite video game is unnecessary and gets you the same punishment as a 'lol +1 post count' post.
In the General Board, the two topics called 'Birthday' and 'Player Pictures', as well as anything in the Tales and Stories Board, can be freely posted in. That is, it doesn't matter how long it has been since someone last made a post in either of those two General Board topics or any topic in Tales and Stories.
This will allow players to post in old threads if they have something to offer, while still allowing us to punish people who are reviving topics without reason.
