I've discovered that if you get into a fight while Viewing someone and end up getting disconnected, it makes View do weird things. Once you log back in, your window looks like View is no longer active; you see the battlefield that your fight is taking place in instead of whatever your Viewed target is up to. Once you finish your fight though, your window remains on the battlefield instead of changing to the overworld or dungeon you're in.
Turns out that the game still thinks you're Viewing someone, but it's lost your target so it defaults to Viewing the area that you're currently in (in this case, the battlefield). So long as you don't end the View, you can watch any random battle provided that the battle system picks the particular battlefield on the map that your fight took place on. If you get into another fight, View will briefly change its target to the new battlefield you're on, but afterwards it either goes back to the battlefield you went link-dead in or uses the newest battlefield to keep an eye on.
