I have a little story. I'd like to title it, 'Life Sucks', but then no one would read it. Either way, what I want to relate to you is how I just get pwnt IRL. So, most of you know about my horrible mother, and how that ever since she died I can say my life got better. Well, from sixseven months ago to five years ago, I brushed my teeth maybe once a year. As we all know, brushing our teeth is essential to make teeth sparkle and shine and to prevent plaque build-up and cavities and shit like that. Well, five years with hardly brushing my teeth, and I never got a single cavity. I was always worried I eventually would get one, but I never could build up a habit of brushing my teeth daily. Until about March-ish, this year. I started brushing my teeth daily in March. Every single day, they are actually white, actually shiny. Not more-yellow-than-piss like they used to be. However, I have a little, tiny, teensy-weensy problem. Since I started brushing my teeth, my teeth actually got somewhat worse, I guess. I don't really understand how it happened, except that either my diet really sucks that much ass or I'm not brushing my teeth properly, but in the seven-ish months I've been brushing my teeth, I've managed to build up... Wait for it... [Dramatic Pause...] <!---Click the Spoiler Button!---!> Seventeen cavities. <!---Click the Spoiler Button!---!> That's right. Seventeen. Of thirty-two. That's more than half of my teeth. And on top of that, getting them filled will cost more money than getting dentures. So, I believe I can really just say that I got utterly pwnt IRL. Edit: By the way, before anyone says I don't know if they all popped up in the seven months, I went to the dentist a year ago while I was still not brushing my teeth. Nada.

That's...interesting..
This proves that toothpaste is a diabolical scheme that dentists have created to get you to need to go to them and fork over your money. Pure genius.

That SAME thing happened to me. I use to never brush maybe on special occasions. Once I started brushing i ended up with 11, i had to get 11 teeth drilled. Drilling blows elephant nuts...

Don't believe so, nor hard but not too soft ether, and now my tooth's gum is like tearing and is quite painful to brush over.

I;ve been drinking soda for 10 years now at least twice a day, and brush my teeth MAYBE once a month, and I've never had any problem except some sensitive gums. So I have to say Realis, next time you buy toothpaste, check whats in it. I'm pretty sure it was that darned toothpaste.

It's diabolical I tell you.
If this isn't the work of dentists, then it's all the work of the toothfairy. She casts evil spells on toothpaste containers so they'll have a reverse effect and rot your teeth so they'll fall out. After which she nabs 'em! She's tooth hungry I tells you!

I think it's actually what your teeth are used to. Yes, I know, they aren't alive. However, if you hadn't brushed your teeth consistently for a very long time, the brissels on your brush might actually poke cavities in your teeth. I'm just guessing this may have caused it since your teeth might have lost the outter enamel protecting the teeth, or most of it, and the toothbrush cut through like butter.
I drink maybe a half gallon of soda per day. I just can't get enough Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper. However, I brush my teeth every day (but only once, screw the dentists tell you) AND I use an alcohol-based mouthwash (Act Restoring Mouthwash). This mouthwash restores cavities with ease (depending on size) and will harden your teeth so they are harder to damage. The only problem I have is that I don't floss, which gives me weak gums. I'll fix that eventually. Anyways, I suggest filling the big cavities and using a restoring mouthwash to take care of the rest, Realis. I had 4 cavities disappear when I started using it and haven't had any since. It'll save you a bundle, unless all of your cavities are huge.

Thanks, Assa.
I think I only have about three or four drastic cavities; a LARGE majority of the cavities aren't visible at all, even if I smile really really big. I have one in my eye tooth (that grew OVER the baby tooth which I need to get pulled one of these years...) and a various few on my front teeth. I only have one tooth that hurts consistently, and besides that I didn't know any other cavities existed. I was thinking I'd have at most 6 when I went up to the dentist.
Anyway, a friend tells me that when you brush your teeth you expose your teeth to more bacteria; if you don't brush your teeth completely or correctly, then you are only doing more harm than good. I plan to start flossing, using mouthwash, and brushing my teeth at least once daily. (Like I'll ever remember to do it a second time though.)

I need to use that mouth wash to restore my cavities as well. I'm in a similar situation as Rdy is right now so hopefully that'll help some. In addition to that, I need my wisdom teeth cut out and two of my teeth need root canals which is going to cost me a fortune. Heh, wish me luck.

Yeah I have one of those Mouthwashes. There are 2 things that helped me alot though. 1. That Mouthwash that Assa explained. 2. A few months ago I bought a new toothbrush. I used to HATE brushing my teeth. I never wanted to stop doing what I was doing, just to brush my teeth. On top of that, I never actually brushed them right. Well this Toothbrush I bought is heaven on batteries. Its an automatic toothbrush, its really good. It's called SoniCare. Very very good. Its almost exactly like going to the dentist. Literally, the middle part moves in circles, the outside parts move up and down. It goes all the way down your teeth, and the middle part gets the center of your teeth, it also has a tongue cleaner on the other side.
Its an insanely good toothbrush for just $40. The downside is that it has to recharge every once in a while.
Now I'm going to explain every detail about it, well, what it does, not color. Its name is SoniCare. The bristles move in circles and up and down. Its an automatic toothbrush, so what you have to do is put the paste on it, and just press the button once. It has its own 2 minute timer, so when 2 minutes is over it stops. Yes you can press it again. It comes in a box. The box comes with the body, 4 bristle heads, and the charger/cleaner. When you use up the 4 bristle heads you have to buy more(I had it for almost a year now and I haven't used up one yet.). What you do is take one of the heads and just push it onto the body. The charger is the best part about it. Its a charger/cleaner. When you're done brushing your teeth put the body onto the charging spot. Take the head off, and put the head inside the charger. There are 2 slots for the bristle heads to go. Just take off the lid and put inside the slot. Close the lid and, if the charger is plugged in, you will see a blue light on the charger itself. That means the heads are being cleaned. They are sanitized, so yes they are cleaned well. On the charger itself is a slot for the Body to go. If its plugged in, put it on the slot, and you'll see the blue light on the toothbrush body. That means its charging its batteries. Usually I only charge it once a week, pretty much every Monday I charge it.
This is a really good toothbrush, at a really good price. Its a great deal, really. And with the Mouthwash Assa talked about, its heaven in your bathroom(Yes same joke different version, and both are true.). This should probably help you out a little bit.

You are probably helping more people than you realize with that tidbit. The brush itself is a little pricey, but if it works in that fashion, I might squeeze for it. Definitely getting the mouthwash. My teeth are not as strong as I would like them. So, thank you, all.

I've heard about this before. The plaque that builds up due to not brushing solidifies hard enough ontop of your teeth's enamel that the enamel can't be scraped/scratched away, and the plaque adds layer upon layer ontop of it, kind of forming a really strong barrier.
When you start brushing regularly after a long time of not brushing you can expose your teeth and put them at more risk. That enamel on your teeth to help protect them hasn't had to replace itself from daily brushings in such a long time that it wasn't use to the heavier brushing, probably.
Anyway, not like any of that helps you now. That really sucks, man D: I'm not saying its your fault, but it seems alot of kids these days don't know alot about good self hygene. Parents seem to be slacking at figuring out what to teach kids. My friend's roommate had a party last night and one of the girls cut her foot on a rogue piece of glass, wasn't serious but they were just going to stop the bleeding with toilet tissue then put a bandaid on it. I was literally slapping my forehead before stepping in to make sure they cleaned the wound right with peroxide, we didn't have any so we used some of the untouched everclear<_< (we were all too afraid to drink it XD) seriously though. My friend chris almost lost his foot from a small cut like that, bad infection took over a good portion of the foot before they did anything about it.
It's always the damn little stuff. BTW, I've been drinking soda heavy since around 7th grade when I was introduced to mt.dew, and go through between 1 and 3 cans a day. I brush daily and have done so for the majority of my life, but I'm also a milk lover and have a glass almost daily. It's the damn little stuff done every day that can make the difference. =3

You know, I've NEVER, not once in my life been to a dentist.
My sister has been a few times, and my dad and mom... and other sister...
They all have had problems with there teeth. I've never needed braces, never had cavities and all that jazz.
...I guess I'm just real fortunate.
