Please answer the question above in the poll by clicking on which answer you want to give.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Why yes, we got a new dedicated server for Final Fantasy: The Hunting Grounds. The server is now being run on it's very own computer.
The PROs to this are: 1) Has enough HD space for the save-files. (70gb HD) 2) Backup external USB 160gb HD for save-file backups. 3) AMD Sempron(tm) 3000+ 2.9ghz processor. 3) 768mbs of RAM. (704 to be exact) 5) Cable Internet connection. (ON AVERAGE www.speedtest.net/result/170303929.png Updated just about everyday) 6) Kija now has access to freely send files to the computer anytime he wants. 7) Kija can now access and control the entire computer. This includes; executing files, deleting files, creating files, and even fully rebooting the entire computer.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The new address is byond://24.116.234.89:1337.
We are doing this in preparation of Version 8's release and the FF:THG community deserves a stable and faster server. This, will hopefully let alot of old players enjoy the game a little more and bring some new players to the game. If any other Brotherhood member, player, or forumer wishes to add his input to this thread/poll, PLEASE feel free to.- Mahn

ooOoOooo. *lurks creepily around the forums* I've only poked my head in the door maybe once in a blue moon, but I still can't wait to see v8. I, for one will definitely come back to play V8. Only one way I can think of to bring new players, are a.) to help said new players are they first start playing...as much as possible. A strong playerbase is always a good sign.^^ b.) I haven't been on BYOND in so long, i doubt I know many people who i could talk into coming to play...but ya never know what kind of oldbies will return. =P
Hence I happily agree with this move to a dedicated server. Mettool by far did the best hosting job we've seen, and this definitely wont replace his personality, but perhaps It could have some witty banter to enlighten us all late at night. >_>?
*ninja edit* Damn lag, im on a dial-up connection and an older PC..clicked yes on accident. Hooray for dumbies?

Tuesday morning, 10a.m. ping times of .9~1.5 seconds, i was wondering is the system rebooted once a day or if not could that be set on a schedule to be automatic?
There are 5 people connected atm, 4 if you dis-clude my alt. Its not a big deal cause there arent many people that its effecting though, and im sure that later in the day closer to peak times someone could reboot it then. Perhaps some day Vista will handle memory in such a beautiful way that reboots will no longer be needed...D:

I currently have a download going on my computer...not the host computer. Though, with the router, share the same internet access. Windows is pretty good about not needing reboot for a LONG while but it is rebooted once a week. Other then the download really effecting it, it still stays very enjoyable to play and less lag then before.
If I can't even have a download going on a separate computer if people are going to complain about 1-3secs of lag, then no point to me having them hooked up. If that comes to a possibility of total disregard for things the host wants to do, which came down to why Mett retired, then there would be no point to me paying for my cable internet as I would never use it or anyone else wanting to host the server/game. I doubt someone is going to host something that would cover "all" of their internet connection when they can't do anything for their pleasure.
I do understand where you are coming from though, Fenrir. It isn't like I am trying to cause lag to the server but sometimes, it can't be helped for my personal and family pleasure. At least, I don't play WoW, other games, and download on the host computer itself. Even with the RAM upgrade a few days ago, which is posted in the original post, it would still lag ALOT more then it does now if I did that. The download is estimated to be done in 9-10 hours for your reference. If you must know what I am downloading, I am downloading a few DVDs.

I know it's a bit late, but.. I do experience lag at times on the server. I normally experience lag because of multikeying, but that isn't bad. Where I have noticed lag much is around Mona. I don't know what it is, but on that frozen field, it will do random lags. We'll be fine at times, but at other times, one or more of us will lag on a character. For the most part, there isn't much in the way of lag. I could also be having issues with my ISP and my computer. Either way, that new setup has been wonderful.

Hi From the question, it can be inferred that any game will receive lag at some point, but thats just the way things are, there just cant be a perfect server. The server is incredibly stable in the mornings and from the info on it, looks pretty sweet, especially since its different. From about 3:00+, a bit of lag can be seen, but you can still play, as the day progresses, it gets uglier, but i dont know about later afternoon/night, but i enjoy the conditions that i am able to play under. The main thing is, are you playing, and enjoying the time you get on? Grateful for the server and hosting, ~InfiniteWisdom
