Moving away from "FF"(read before voting damnit)

In some previous thread, someone stated(I believe it was Kija, plz GOD don't ban me again if I am wrong) that "we are trying to move away from the Final Fantasy label/title/etc" Well, I have a couple of suggestions that could help this movement.

See how mages get the option of what magic they use, we could apply this theory to Knights in somep erspective, maybe even Fighters and Dragoons.

Sword Knight - Above average hit rate, average strength
Ax Knight - Below Average hit rate, Above Average strength
Spear Knight - Average hit rate, Average strength
Now, we are not limiting the knights invetory, but an Ax Knight would be able to use Exclusive Axes, such as the one at Tote(Atlas Axe), while a Sword Knight could not, also a bonus could be given to the Ax Knight, like an additional hit with axes, and a +5% power boost with the ax, maybe a power deductive when the Ax Knight tries to use a spear or sword. The Ax Knight would be the hardest hitter, the Sword Knight would be the most accurate, an extra hit while using the sword, and the spear knight would be the avarage joe, there will be specialized spears for the lance knight

Sword Dragoon - Below Average Jump, area jump(Sky Tech)
Spear Dragoon - Average Jump, reg jump(Sky Fighting)
Polearm Dragoon - Above Average Jump, hard jump(Sky Hammering)
In this case, lets say the bonus a Sword Dragoon gets from jump would be like 45% but he would get like Sleak Jump(puree/ice), maybe Splice Jump a skill that halves the HP(render/demi), and more ground skills (Slip Strike would grant a power bonus) more status effects, and they would be limited to specialized swords only(Dragoon build swords, God knows Dragoons would be way overpowered using Knight's swords) and they probably would not learn Free Flying, the spear would be the regular 75% jump boost and the same skills that we have now and they are limited to spears and few polearms, the polearm dragoon would be limited only to polearms, have access to some axes, gain an extra hit on the polearm, and hard a whole different type of sky fighting(I called it Sky Hammering, but I am sure someone has a better idea) Their skills would cost more MP but would be stronger, for example at lvl 20 instead of learning Dive(150% boost) they would learn Crash - 4 MP 175% boost, and instead of Crush at lvl 48(200% boost) They would learn Hammer - 5MP(230% boost)

Sword Fighter - Bonus swords, extra hit(maxing out at 8)
Spear Fighter - Bonus spears, extra hit(maxing out at 7)
Ax Fighter - Bonus Axes, gets an extra hit on an ax(maxing out at 4 since they learn master of weapons whenever)
Blunt Fighter - Bonus Blunts, extra hit(maxing at 5)

I don't see this the same as a Red/Blue Mage's selection of magic. Whichever two they DON'T pick are permanently locked out from them, but with your suggestion the meleers would still have access to everything they could use from before, and add a bonus to one of them. I think a better comparison would be if mages could use all three elements, but picked one that would have a boost in power compared to the others. That wouldn't happen, though.

It also sounds like selecting a weapon would give that class entirely different skillsets. Isn't that more or less creating 3 new melee classes for each one that can do this? Fighter + Knight + Dragoon * 3 = 9 melee classes, and I thought there was supposed to be a balance between the two types, since as it is now there are 4 melee, 4 magic, a furry and "look at me try to do everything at the same time" classes. Maybe leaving it at a hit/damage bonus would be better.

Besides, if I recall correctly I think there was a guaranteed "dragoons will never hit more than one enemy" decision. That's what Knights are for.

The thought of melee attacks adding a variety of status effects unnerves me a bit, though. Using those things as a wizard is chancy enough as it is, since they do no initial damage and later monsters develop resistances to them. I think letting meleers inflict status effects on top of physical damage would take that away from spellcasters, and I thought a major gripe people had against them was their "boom boom boom" on enemies. You wouldn't give them much of an option otherwise. Not to mention if you missed, you wouldn't lose the MP. Spell casters will still be out. I know that wouldn't affect ME much, but my build isn't exactly common.

I just think that if a Dragoon wants to use area attacks, he should have made a Knight. If a Knight wants to play with axes, he should've been a Fighter. And someone who wants to play with spears would have been better off playing a Dragoon.

Well, that is why this is posted under suggestions Sarm, what I said is not in stone, maybe they should just be limited to the weapon they specialize in...

Also, with the status effect, what I meant was More status effects to go along with their skills, Like when the Bluemage uses Pearl one out of (not sure as I don't own a bluemage) many status effects overcomes the target, if it doesnt resist. Like the thief's Pressura Attack(invokes sleep) the Dragoon's Crush(invokes weak 1)

Those two skills involve a specific effect, whereas Pearl is still a gamble. I don't know why anybody would rely on Pearl for anything other than it's magical damage, because it's really just Holy with a "Hey, look at me! I'm DIFFERENT!" gimmick to it. If I wanted to put monsters to sleep, I use Sleep 2. Lowering attack power, I'll use Weak 2. Drop in speed, Slow 2. At least that way I can guarantee which status effect I use (provided they don't get kicked with resistances). Pearl can only invoke one of 3 out of the 8 possible status ailments in the game.

(Weak, Slow, Lock, Poison, Mute, Confusion, Sleep, Paralysis)

Anyway, I may be attacking your suggestion but I'm not doing it from any malice. I know it's not set in stone but I don't believe you can refine a suggestion if you don't pick apart the impurities. I would expect people to do the very same for anything I would mention - How it can be abused by players, how much of a change it would bring to battles, what it will do to other classes that might have a similar function already.
