It would be interesting i characters had the ability to make emotions other than wemote or emote. There could be icons for different faces, depending on how the person feels. I know that the icons were taken from different Final Fantasy games, but the extra effort of making them show emotion would be interesting. The sprites from Final Fantasy IV should be the easiest, seeing as how they have at least one emotion.

This would be absolutely LOVELY. /sarcasm
97% of single-unit based icons are created mouthless. 89% of single-unit based icons have no depth in coloring for eyes. 100% of FF-based icons are dreadfully simple lacking plenty of shading. Let's work on the shading problem before putting emotion into the work.

Understood. I was just recalling the sprites from Final Fantasy VII and how they are able to have emotion, even though they do not have mouths. I see what you mean, though.

To be fair, the sprites from FF7 aren't 16-bit, nor are they 16x24 icons. When the face part of an icon is usually about a quarter of that 16x24 area, there tends to be very little room for facial expressions aside from a simplistic smirk or frown. Eyes are even smaller, and as a result anything past 'blank stare into space' is hard to convey. Long story short, basic emotion is pretty much the best that can be done with the current icons, and display of those emotions are typically no more than changing the position or color of a pixel or three.
