This suggestion is simple: When a character reaches wounded status (< 30% HP), their damage putput from both melee and spells should increase slightly (10% seems like a good figure to me).
The theory behind this is that, when you're close to death, your character should make a last-ditch attempt at taking down his/her aggressor before they die. One could almost say it adds an element of risk to fighting at low health - do you keep going and hope the extra damage prevents the monsters from eating your mangled body, heal up or humbly retreat in the face of a higher power?
Of course, a notable exception should be made for jumping Dragoons (given that they're currently invulnerable in midair and this removes the risk element). Also, this adds a little extra boost for Redmages using Instill (both the melee and the magic would be boosted)

It would go something like this: "BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!" Or maybe... "BLOOP! BLOOP! BLOOP! BLOOP!" Or possibly... "BEEBEEP! BEEBEEP! BEEBEEP! BEEBEEP!" Yes?

I could just as easily propose that at wounded status your damage goes down. Your lifeforce is at a critical state, so keeping yourself as focused and conscious as normal is often more of a priority than making your hits count. Fighters under a rage would be an exception since they're basically in a berserker fury and thus don't care about anything past 'rip and tear and rip and tear...', but any other class is not likely going to have extra power when they have multiple critical injuries and/or a sucking chest wound to worry about.

well going along with the original idea in the OP, i'd like to see the defense and magic defense go down as well. If someone is trying to go all out, then they're usually more vulnerable
