Players! Brotherhood! Guests! I have called you here today for one reason! It is time we break through, destroy the ways of the past! It is time for change, it is time for something new! No longer shall we be repressed by the beliefs of the past! No longer shall we fall short of the shadow of before! No longer shall we be tyrannized by actions of people of a time gone! I have a dream that one day these forums will rise up... live out the true meaning of its creed. We hold these truths to be self-evident that all people may log-in! I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will they be able to sit down together at the table of the Brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in forums where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today. I have a dream today that we WILL break the record for most users online at one time! I will not sit back and watch as a third year passes without so much as an attempt to break the chains! (This thread is for discussing breaking the record for most users online at one time, and, hopefully, leading to breaking this record before September 21, 2008.)

Good luck with that. I put this on a tab yesterday and the day before yesterday to test the activity. I checked every 10 minutes.
The most people I had was four, and not a single one of them posted or anything, or even seemed to look at anything. Occasionaly the active people would post ((such as your self)) but it so few and far between :3...
I agree theres more activity needed here but really, with the main website, there's not exactly a need to go anywhere else if the game is up because most questions people have can be answered there.

I agree theres more activity needed here but really, with the main website, there's not exactly a need to go anywhere else if the game is up because most questions people have can be answered there. FFO's forums get a lot more activity because their 'FAQ' is actually embedded to the forums, so to learn about anything you are going to the forums anyway. Nonetheless, I do think there is nowhere near enough activity here. There have been some epic debates, such as Red Mage vs. Knight, THG slowly dying, and my Thief analysis. Two of those actually achieved what would be called 'Hot Topics', which are like the first I've seen that could be called that. The first, and I've been on the forums for almost an entire year and have some 370 posts. I think it is ridiculous that it is always the same people that post, and even still the most I really get to seeing is five a day. I once saw an entire five days, not a single post. Although I am against Gaia Syndrome 1 and pointless posts, I want to stress the utter lack of activity here, which is shown best in the fact that the most users online - a mere 23, which that many people usually log in total in a day - was set almost three years ago. That's kinda sad. 1 Gaia Syndrome - the ridiculous urge to make a post about a topic after reading only its first post, ignoring multiple pages or posts, and posting simply your opinion, thus contributing nothing to the topic but still raising your e-peen rank.

I'll contribute my help by staying on the forums as long as possible, nya!
I think the most I've seen online was... four or five, maybe!~ Hikari-chan is on the forums (Or tries to be!) often, but doesn't seem like her post would be of much help, so she doesn't post, s-sorry, nya~~ Maybe I will post a bit more often if it helps, k-kya!

More times than not, a post that is more than one sentence is usually more helpful than it is hurtful to a topic. I think a lot of people feel like they can't or won't contribute to a topic and thus don't post, which leaves to less activity. A large number of posts, specifically in topics of debate, tend to have posts directly from two or three different people, even though supposedly as many as 20 people will see the topic each day. I'm not saying one should post as much as they can no matter how small or meaningless their post is, but there would be a lot more activity if people would lurk less. Rather than checking the forums once or twice a day for posts - as seems to be how most people do check the forums - if more posts were made, more attempts at checking the forums would be done, right? Also, I propose that, on September 13 - a Saturday - be thean attempted day to break the record. Any thoughts on this?

I like the idea.
I think when the server comes up we should advertise :3
I got to thinking that maybe some people are too afraid to post if there not well known. If we advertise in game and let them know we're real people in the game that they know, they'll come and post :]

Nope. I didn't vote at all. It doesn't matter to me any.
I'd rather the honesty show instead of a group rally just to change it, and then everything go the way it usually is again.

I'd rather the honesty show instead of a group rally just to change it, and then everything go the way it usually is again. That's actually one of the points of this topic, to promote activity. In the past 24 hours, a total of 32 people logged in and checked the forums, with 23 other guests for a total of 55 people. Out of those 32 people only -9- people posted. Three of them only posted one message, which would in the Announcement thread of Mahn's problems (or fixings of said problems) and are normally quiet. Hikari-chan and you, Soren, also tend to stay quiet. That's 4 people that are posting reliably; Lord Phoenix makes a post occasionally, but for the most part sticks to lurking. This leads to, specifically, large debates with the same people. Bolt posted quite a bit once I pissed him off, but that's it. 32 people passed by in the past 24 hours and 23 of them didn't bother to post a single message. Firemaster: 2 Great Milenko: 3 Sur Realis: 5 6 including this post Jumin: 1 Oliver: 6 7 including the post made about the time of this one Mahn: 1 Rand: 1 Hikari-chan: 3 Soren: 2 Edit: This inactivity is also related to a slight 'double-posting' problem, which Divusmor would agree with me. There was some time in the past where I made a post in a thread and about a week or two later I needed to make a new post in it. If I made a new post, then I'd be accused of loldoubleposting and +20% Warning Level. If I edited, then -no one- would know that I edited the post and it would go unnoticed. This happened to Divusmor in the Abilities for Chaotics thread, and he PMed me (maybe he knew I check the forums like every 20 minutes? o-O) to make the post for him. If the forums were slightly more active and more people made posts then this wouldn't be a problem. (I do know a solution to this that can be done, but it would be easily abusable for other things.)

I tend to lurk more than actually participating in conversations. I'm all up for beating the record or whatnot.

I don't post unless I have something to contribute to the conservation, which is why most of the time you see me lurking a lot on the forums. I would rather see the most users online come about naturally, instead of it being encouraged by something, but thats just me. Also, one thing that might help achieve that goal is for people to stay logged in forever. But thats kinda cheating...

I try not to post unless I have something to add to the conversation, is that really bad? I'm new around here too, though I played THG a long long time ago. But, seriously, I'm somewhat afraid that I'll post something stupid, or start an argument with someone (I really hate arguments).

But I also hate it when a forum has absolutely no activity at all because people are too afraid to post. Sure, there are times when one needs to hold their tongue, but still... I mean, for a LONG TIME THERE NO suggestions were made. Really I've only seen like four new fanfictions, not including my two, in the Tales and Stories section through the entire year. Come on now. Your opinion matters. Unless you are like Wisdom. Then you can [censored].

It may be worth noting that some of the forum rules we have tend to be more centered around larger boards with significant daily activity (looking at the thread necromancy rule in particular here) which can hinder a small board's progress more than they can help.
Yet the root of all this is that we're a small community to begin with.
If you want more people to be in here posting, you're going to need more people playing the game to begin with, so get out there and spread the word!

The thread necromancy rule is primarily meant to prevent people from making pointless posts to bring up old topics, just so they can post something, such as saying "Lol, that is cool." on a thread a month old. If the person actually has something decent to add, then I do not think it would really be minded as much.
